Miguel is a Portuguese-born Film and Television Director with two decades of experience. His international directing work has spanned several genres and styles — from contemporary thrillers and action to period dramas and teen/young adult shows, as well as formats, having worked on limited series, returning series and long serial dramas, most of them from the initial idea to delivery. He has directed across several countries, including international co-productions of award-winning shows sold to many territories. Among them is Laços de Sangue, co-produced by Brazilian TV Globo, which won an International Emmy for Best Series. Over the last six years, he has been directing continuously in the UK for the BBC (EastEnders and Casualty), Channel 4 (Hollyoaks) and ITV (Coronation Street and Emmerdale), more than 115 episodes altogether, including some major story peaks and stunts. Known for employing a cinematic and energetic style, he keeps a sensitive eye on performances, nurturing actors and enabling them to realise their full potential while feeling secure and grounded. He is currently developing a slate of projects for film and television, his own and in collaboration with other writers.
